We are uncertain how this ends…

You are an active member of the United States Armed Forces. The country’s top military officer just asked you to strap it on and go to combat, war, a kinetic military action with these inspirational words:

“There have been lots of options which have been discussed, but I think it’s very uncertain how this ends. I think circumstances will drive where this goes in the future.” –Admiral Mike Mullen Newsmax

Do you even know what kinetic means? And neither do most. I conclude that is the intent. Dropping bombs on people is palatable as long as we do not call it what it is. Just as terrorist acts are now man caused disasters.

Kinetic, to my limited knowledge of the word, is about producing movement. Maybe there is a physicist reading that can help us out. As a military action, it must mean that if we drop enough ordnance on Gadaffy’s tent he will move in the direction we desire, rather than fight back. Sound military strategy I’d say.

When I was a lost teenager, in Chicago in the late 60’s for amusement my buddies and I would go to hippie concerts at the Kinetic Playground. When the earsplitting music and strobe lights kicked off, hordes of hippies on various mind altering drugs would jump around in the middle of the floor until they vomited and passed out. I feel it was a necessary service to help you understand kinetic and that if the world’s most powerful military force kills kinetically, the hippies directing it from Washington will jump around until they vomit and pass out.

John, Jane, Hill, can we circle around and hold hands, maybe light some candles and paint crescent moons on our foreheads as we declare in unison that “this looks like another Vietnam” as do all liberal lead kinetic military actions.

Fortunately, where the proverbial rubber meets the road America has great and competent military leaders. Have no doubts. The men and women charged to lead and care for America’s sons and daughters and putting the tip of the spear on our nation’s enemies are unequaled on this planet. Period. Unfortunately for them and our country, they do not determine their mission, our national strategy or the often inane policies by which they must live.

For most military leaders, their hearts are firmly with the troops. Others prefer offering the palms inverted Homer Simpson salute to a gaggle of Pentagon reporters. Simply stated, some leaders choose the warrior side. Some choose the political side. Think Combatant Commanders versus the Joint Chiefs.

Since the national mission is not clear, Admiral Mullen’s uncertainty is understandable, but his words are inexcusable. Our nation’s top military officer is obligated to demand from the Commander in Chief a clearly defined mission with a clearly expected outcome (how this ends) – the objective. He owes that to the serving men and women and their families who are being asked to lay it on the line. If he does not have the fortitude to demand that from the CINC, then he needs to call on any remaining honor and courage that he has left and resign.

Sadly, the Secretary of Defense is not doing much better:

“We haven’t done something like this, kind of on the fly before,” Gates said. “So it’s not surprising to me that it would take a few days to get it sorted out.” Yahoo News

We must be on the fly now pay later plan.

The Admiral was much more decisive in his support of open homosexual service and it appears that Secretary Gates was taking no chances with this important mission. He was not making this one up on the fly. Clearly it was too important to our national security to lack clarity and certainty. Both were rather clear on how this ends.

Military members who have a problem with a change in policy to allow gays to serve openly may find themselves looking for a new job, Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warned Thursday. – Fox News

ARLINGTON, Va. — Defense Secretary Robert Gates has instructed the Defense Department to accelerate a plan to end the “don’t ask, don’t tell” ban on openly gay military personnel and start rolling out its training within a “very few weeks.” Military.com

Here is an example of the Secretary’s well planned situational training.

“Situation,” it begins. “You are the Executive Officer of your unit. While shopping at the local mall over the weekend, you observe two junior male Marines in appropriate civilian attire assigned to your unit kissing and hugging in the food court. – Washington Times

I expect in this situation, the Marine Corps officer might vomit and pass out. If only we had the same focus and intensity directed toward our other kinetic military action.

When I was a boy growing up in the Southern West Virginia hills, my friends and I spent a lot of time playing in the woods. At the end of one day, we decided to take a break and sit for a while on a very inviting moss covered log. We sat there for a few minutes and got up to leave. It was about that time that the nest of Yellow Jackets that we had been sitting on initiated a kinetic action against us. We ran, swatted, yelped and ran some more until we were all the way home. As I shed my clothes, I was still being stung by the bees that followed me home. I am guessing those bees are still there.

We know how this turns out Admiral.

  1. The Clown in Chief has slowly but surely accomplished everything he has been instructed to do by his handlers. Our military, tired from 10 years of war, equipment wearing out and facing reduced funding and manpower has now been committed to yet another area of operaton fighting along side an enemy we are fighting against. This IS his goal. Protection of innocent civilians is a byproduct.
I am sickened by the continued degredation of our military that during its height during Desert Storm to another Vietnam era type force.

    God help us.

  2. Why JD, certainly you don’t mean to say that the military should be an organization that is trained, armed and ready to decimate any enemy of the USA?

    kinetic humanitarian interventions only }:>)

  3. Once again, JD, you’ve hit the target. This whole administration has lost its mind! And now we are no longer the world leader–our troops will answer to the United Nations (a legitimate reason to throw up on a daily basis!) and without a battle plan. We cannot establish a battle plan without knowing the mission, the ultimate goal. God help our military heroes and God help our country. I think He’s the only hope we have left. The war of 2012 has begun. The people’s 2012 ballot box will be stuffed, I’m sure, but with votes from the “entitled ones,” unfortunately. God help us all.
