A Trustworthy Scatologist

In a recent campaign speech, the President declared that the person elected to the presidency must be trustworthy. He then stated that his opponent is not. Sadly, too many blindly accept that statement from the leader they adore without much thought or without making their own assessment of the President’s trustworthiness or that of his challenger.

What makes a person trustworthy? If a person is untrustworthy, why do people to follow him?

Trustworthiness is the sum of a person’s character and competence. An assessment of trustworthiness cannot be made from a position of blind adoration. It must be a critical assessment, especially if you are voting for the future leader of the most powerful nation on the planet.

Character is determined by modeled principles and modeled values. Not what one professes to believe and practice, but what one actually does.

If I declared to you that I believe in a strong middle class, yet my actions moved to fundamentally transform the middle class into the government dependent class thus destroying the backbone of America would I be modeling the principle I espoused? If I told you that I believe in the vaunted American dream, then daily vilified those who worked to actually achieve the dream would I be modeling the principle I claimed? If I told you that I believe in and support the men and women who serve in our armed forces then went about stripping away their ability to defend themselves and our nation or I abandoned Americans to die at the hands of terrorists, would I be walking my talk? If I declared that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, would that align with my priorities of promoting homosexual marriage, homosexual military service, and abortion on demand?

To follow such a person, one must believe and support what he does not what he professes. Or, you must be too ignorant to compare the words that come from his mouth to the actions generated from his heart.

Character is just one component of trustworthiness. Competence is the other. A person’s competence is measured by demonstrated skills and demonstrated ability. If I told you that my plans and policies would reduce unemployment and then unemployment increased and stayed high. Or, if I told you my plans and policies would cut the national deficit in half, but instead added to it 6 trillion dollars, would I have demonstrated to you that I had either the skill or competence that I implied?

So, if a person’s modeled character and modeled competence do not match his professed character and competence how does he lure and keep followers?

The President also declared that his opponent is a bullshi**er. The President’s words not mine. Might this be some level of projection? If you cannot get people to follow you because of what you do, then you try to convince them to follow you because of what you say. As our President less eloquently declared, you use large doses of bovine scatology. You sprinkle fairy dust over reality and promise all a utopian helping of hope and change. Many, who want to believe in you, think that giving you a chance will actually heal the land, lower the sea levels and provide the added bonus of expunging their societal built guilt complexes. Because of their unquestioning gullibility they will follow you – right on through the gates of hell. Or maybe when arriving at the gate, they will decide they have gone far enough.

What is the answer to the question? How does one so untrustworthy lure people to follow him? Not hard to figure. To succeed, he must become a Trustworthy Scatologist. He must convince people to believe his bovine scatology. It works for a while, but it is a structure built on a flimsy foundation. It is a structure that collapses in spectacular fashion rather than crumbling slowly. It collapses because as 1st Century BC writer Publilius Syrus wrote: “Trust, like the soul, never returns once it is gone.” And it is gone.

A Time for Everything

I am still astounded by America’s great undecided. Occasionally, I get an email from someone after reading one of my posts. It will go something like, “I agree with you, but what are we going to do about it?” I usually try to respond with something reassuring to ease their anxiety, but I never tell them what to do rather than stay engaged and never give up. I am comfortable that most of my subscribers are firmly decided and like me they want the best for this great nation. They are simply looking for ways to help preserve her.

If you are among the undecided, know that there is no one out there who is going to give you the answer. Although he gets the question almost daily, I suggest to you that answers you seek come to you from a power much higher than Rush Limbaugh. In his enlightening and entertaining way, Mr. Limbaugh may impart Job-like political wisdom, but the best he can offer the great undecided is to tweak the answer that is already inside of them.

What do you stand for? What is it that you value most? What are you least willing to give up? Are you willing to fight for those things or roll passively over while they are taken from you? If you are not willing to fight as if your life, and the life of your nation, depend on it then my impression is that you are not undecided. You are just a value-less coward – a sheep shivering before a pack of wolves. Waiting in turn to be devoured by those who are willing to do most anything to achieve what they desire.

Do you see how hard the hard-core atheists work to destroy God or to remove all vestiges of Him from our country? They are certainly willing to fight for what they stand for. As misguided as it is. Never does a day pass where some atheists do not cry out how offensive and intolerant a Christian symbol is or a prayer before a sporting event for good sportsmanship and the protection of the athletes. Then, the ACLU goes to court and a spineless or sympathetic judge agrees with them. They gain a little more ground in their war to remove God from America. And largely, Americans undecidedly watch it happen.

I have a question for the atheists. If you ever succeed and Christianity disappears from America, what will your post-Christian world be like? When America’s foundation is fundamentally transformed and we truly are “no longer a Christian nation” as our President has already affirmed, where will you turn? What will you do when another group, say maybe the Islamists since you can never find the courage to challenge them, decide that post-Christian America should not have any atheists either? What will you do when the call comes to silence you? The one group in this land built on God-given freedom, which would most adamantly defend your right to believe as you choose, will not be here to defend you. And you will have done that to yourself.

If you read the Bible, you are certainly familiar with the book of Ecclesiastes especially Chapter 3. If not, and you are from my generation maybe you remember the song Turn Turn Turn, recorded by the Byrds in 1965. I am going out on a limb here, but I believe this might be the oldest number one hit ever recorded. The author is uncertain, but Biblical scholars believe it may have been written by King Solomon circa tenth century BC (Pete Seeger only added the music.). Timeless lyrics, as is the wisdom imparted. The theme of the book of Ecclesiastes is really quite simple, unless God is at the center, everything else is meaningless.

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Right now, the people who would cheerfully take away your freedom, the liberal-progressive-communists, are fighting hard for what they believe. They stand for every negative in this scripture. Is it your time or is it theirs?

It is time for America’s undecided to take a long look in the mirror and in their hearts and ask what they stand for. Is it time for you to be silent or is it time for you to speak? Is it time for America to be born or is it time for her to die.

Joe Malarkey

Malarkey. It comes by different names like bovine scatology. In my mind it is now synonymous with Biden. Joe Malarkey Biden is also interchangeable with buffoon, gas bag and the second most dangerous man in America. He is a suit that is so empty it astounds me that the residents of an actual state in the United States made him a United States Senator. What is even more astounding is that the rest of us have a man as close to the Presidency as he is to the guys in white suits:

And they’re coming to take me away Ha Ha
They’re coming to take me away ho ho he he ha ha
To the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time and I’ll be happy to see those nice men in their clean white coats
They’re coming to take me away Ha Ha
To the happy home with trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes
They’re coming to take me away Ha Ha Ha – They’re Coming To Take Me Away

I try to temper what I have to say about the top leaders of the free world, mostly out of deference and respect for the offices they hold, but I am finding that increasingly difficult. I am proud of Paul Ryan for maintaining his composure and adhering to one of my golden rules. Never argue with an idiot. He will only bring you down to his level then whip you with experience.

Joe, do you want to hear some real malarkey? How about if you have a successful business, “you didn’t build that.” Even though, we have been reminded that the “buck stops with you.” Or , “I believe at a certain point, you’ve made enough money.” And, when someone decides that we have made enough money he tells us, “I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”

Yep, Joe, that certainly lays out the American dream right there does it not? If you are successful in business, government will decide what enough money is for you. Then it will take the rest to do with it as government sees fit. We understand, you did after all remind us that it is “the middle class that’s been buried the last four years.” Out here in the middle class, Joe, we agree yet you keep shoveling dirt, or malarkey, into the hole you dug for us.

Then there is the malarkey energy plan. “Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” Remaining coal friendly, here in Wild and Wonderful coal country, we are told, “So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.” And then there was you Joe, “No coal plants here in America,” you declared. “Build them, if they’re going to build them, over there [in china]. Make them clean. We’re not supporting clean coal.” I guess you told us. And the people of Ohio and Pennsylvania, with significant coal industry sent you to the Whitehouse any way.

Then there is the religion of malarkey. You did declare Joe that, “My religion defines my life.” The other half of your team declared, “Whatever we once were, we’re [the USA] no longer a Christian nation.” Heck of away to define your life. We also forfeited to Islam our freedom of speech when our leader declared: “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.” With the religion of malarkey in charge, there is no future to be concerned about – other than basic survival.

You Joe, and your boss, have loaded up your solar powered malarkey spreader and covered the land. Americans can no longer afford a liberal-progressive-communist leadership team bent on fundamentally destroying our country. And that Joe, is no malarkey.

Then sings my soul

The rain had stopped, but the view from Hawk’s Nest was still a little misty Saturday morning. Fall colors were just beginning to show so the explosion of gold, red and orange foliage we hoped for was still a week away. That aside, our friends visiting from the desert southwest of Arizona appreciated the rolling green scenery as much as my wife and I do each time we see it. It reminds me of a verse from a favorite Christian hymn, How Great Thou Art:

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.
Then sings my soul…

We plan to visit our friends in Arizona where they will take us to see the Grand Canyon. I still marvel at the beauty of our country and that is with mental comparisons to such places as the Swiss Alps. Our country is blessed with beauty and more resources than most countries. We still have the blessing of freedom and free enterprise. Sadly, we are allowing it to slip away.

But, I am growing tired these days. Bone tired. I am tired of politicians. I am tired of politics. I am tremendously tired of those who live in our country, yet outwardly hate everything about it. I am truly tired of the “undecided.” How is one undecided these days? What is it exactly that one can be undecided about? The choice is freedom or not freedom. One may preserve it while one most definitely wants to take it. Any one undecided about that is not competent to vote in an American election. Yet, our politicians spend every waking hour strategizing how to capture the vote of every little self-interested group – including these undecided. Yes, they will spend their valuable yet brief time in life and this important time in our history trying to figure out why the undecided are. Never do they work for the American vote. I am not sure any of them can define what being American means.

In America, politicians and their strategists openly wonder how they will attract the vote of women, or of an ethnic group, or of a specific race, or of a specific religion, or even of a specific sexual orientation. Then they openly wonder about how they can attract wealthy donors to their cause. All of that political kowtowing comes at a price. The politician’s soul and losing America. Losing the one group, one vision, one focus that made this the greatest most prosperous nation in world history.

It is not complicated to discern how America is being lost. We have groups of people who have immigrated to the United States of America from failed societies and failed cultures. It has been the history of our nation to welcome them. It has also been our history for them to assimilate into the American culture. Along with welcoming them, comes their responsibility of a citizen to understand and accept our history, warts and all, and our foundation of God-given freedom and individual liberty. Add to that each identity group looking for special recognition beyond just being a free American. Our country is great because it truly was the place where many came together to produce one. E pluribus unum – out of many one.

I am not so sure we are representative of that motto anymore. Why? It is simple. It is the Anti-American worldview (now being explained as an anti-colonialism world view) that believes that the United States of America (and other western countries) became wealthy and prosperous because they stole the wealth of poorer nations. Ingrained in this belief is that a group can bring its failed culture here and be prosperous in the land that stole its wealth from them in the first place. They refuse to accept that it was the failed cultures from which they ran that kept them from prosperity in their countries and will keep them from prosperity here.

Here in the land of the free, our problem is compounded by leadership that holds these same views. America stole its wealth, therefore her system of free enterprise must be replaced with socialism and the wealth of its people taken and returned to those nations from which it was stolen and to those Americans more comfortable with taking from than contributing to the prosperity of our country.

I suppose I am looking for the leader that can explain why this country is great and why others throughout world history have failed. I want a leader that believes in American Exceptionalism rather than accommodating disunited groups and failed cultures. I want a leader who wants to stand with me at Hawk’s Nest and marvel from lofty mountain grandeur at the singing soul of our great nation.
