An errant compass

Honor holds that we follow a true path. The path laid out for us by our founders and clearly articulated in our founding documents that are based on Judeo-Christian values. It is a compass point in the opposite direction from where our country is headed. We can only be this far off course because we have people in the executive branch of our government who do not accept that path and who are more than willing to act in a lawless and dangerous manner to bring about their desire of a fundamental transformation. It is the path that led us to freedom, prosperity, and respect from most nations of the world. Even those who would rather see this shining example of the power of freedom snuffed out, still held respect. Respect because they know who we are and to what lengths we will go to be the guardians of God-given freedom. Even when it called for great sacrifice, we tried to help citizens of other nations gain and hold freedom.

I lay blame for most of what ails us on the executive branch of our government, but that branch certainly has its enablers. When one half of the legislative branch is complicit and the other half feckless who is there left to hold the executive branch accountable. The judicial branch? Headed up by a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court who wrote communism into American life by rewriting a freedom stealing law and then giving it the constitutional seal of approval. Not much chance there is it? How about the justice department itself? Okay, stop laughing. If our justice department were to actually go after criminals, it would have to arrest the man in charge of it then work its way out from his office in ever increasing concentric circles. Circles that would inevitably capture all of the federal police agencies wound up into the disaster called homeland security. Then it would have to wrap the long arm of the law around most cabinet level agencies. Is it no wonder that the Internal Revenue Service’s tenders are so arrogant? There is no fear of prosecution. There must be someone left in this commie cabal with a little bit of honor. Someone who values the country and the protection of those founding principles enough to lay his big fat government paycheck on the line to protect them. Those types appear to be as scarce as the peace loving moderate Islamists we keep hearing about.

There is little honor left in Congress. Protecting political power, party and their wretched behinds is much more important than the fate of our nation. The Speaker of the House said he is suing the President. That paper and five bucks might buy you a small cup of coffee at a designer coffee shop. And they will let you hold on to the law suit paper. It will do absolutely nothing to hold a lawless executive branch accountable. Start impeaching the criminals. Oh, I forgot. The Karl Rove Republicans just know that if they try that, Americans will hate them and vote them out of office. Well, ladies and gents of the establishment ilk it is too late for that. Americans already despise you. In Mississippi, Republican voters selected the candidate they want representing them in the Senate. To defeat your most dreaded enemy, which oddly enough is not the creep of communism well more like a stampede now, you committed fraud and bought democrat votes to keep a demented member of the establishment in the country club. One who is assured to vote and act however you tell him to. I am not a political prognosticator like the Roves of our world, who are probably clapping you on the back and saying good job, but I think you just lost the Senate and when the dust settles, Mitch McConnell if he survives Election Day will still be Harry Reid’s puppy. I was going to use a word that begins with a “b” that is also used to describe female dogs, but I need to remain general audience compliant. Congress hold anyone accountable? Not much chance. The citizens of Mississippi who voted for McDaniel will not come out to vote for Cochran. That is the shot fired at establishment republicanism. That is how you snatch annihilation from the jaws of victory.

For the people swarming our borders? Do you America haters believe they want to come here for more of what they left? Dictators and perpetual poverty? When they suck this well dry, they will be gone and with them our borders, language and culture and our country.

I try hard to adhere to a Biblical worldview so I believe this nation will be held accountable, but not by its man-corrupted institutions of governance. Before that happens, we are always afforded an opportunity to correct course. It is the people who must hold this government accountable, from the executive branch right on down to the most crooked politician. If we the people fail, America is over.

Spirit of Freedom

I took 2009 off from the internet and this blog. When I returned, one of my first posts was the Spirit of Freedom. Scanning the horizon, it was the most pressing issue I could see. Freedom was slipping away from us and because of us. It was then and is now a dangerous time for Americans. That makes it a dangerous time for the world. I do not believe most of us are prepared for the possibility that America and her spirit of freedom could be gone from the world. And what that would mean. Each of us needs to contemplate the possibility.

The spirit of freedom is an attribute unique to the United States of America. It is what makes this the lone exceptional nation on earth. I am afraid that idea is lost to many Americans. It is not even a thought on the minds, I fear a majority, of America’s political class. It does not even register with the privileged classes. It is certainly lost to the people who have wealth and some manner of fame who get preferential treatment most anywhere whether in America or in hell holes like Cuba or North Korea. If all you have ever known is the good life, freedom is little more than an abstract, even antiquated, thought. Freedom? Do we not all have it?

At great cost, we have learned that we cannot export the spirit of freedom. Cultures that have never been free have it ingrained that government will always take care of it whatever it is. The people are accustomed to dictators and corrupt governments. We send our young men and women into foreign lands convinced they are defending the spirit of freedom. They fight, die, and defeat their enemies on the battle field only to watch America’s political class squander whatever was gained. When the political class decides the battle is finished and our warriors depart, the culture reverts to what it has known for centuries. It has never known freedom. The spirit of freedom cannot be sown then left unattended. It must be cultivated. Unless and until generations have known it, it will never take root. People wonder aloud why American forces are still in places like Germany, Japan, and South Korea. Look at those free and prosperous nations. It speaks for itself. There must be an end for us in such places, but where it has been cultivated the spirit of freedom will remain.

The United States of America was born free. Freedom was guaranteed to the people from the outset. Americans have never known anything but freedom. But that is changing. It may seem like nothing, but we are being told everything from what we should eat, to what we should drive, to what kind of health insurance or to which doctor we must carry our needs. We are being forced to buy a product the majority of us never asked for or wanted and it was forced upon us by the body of men and women we elected to serve us and be the guardians of our spirit of freedom. They failed. They, the protected political class, continue to fail us each day. And there are reasons for that.

The spirit of freedom is not on the minds of the Washington political class. For decades, it has not been. Most Americans cannot look back decades. They cannot find the lost years on Facebook. Washington is corrupt. It always has been to some degree and nowadays the level of it, from the Whitehouse to the smallest Congressional district, is breathtaking. But something is happening. The light of truth is beginning to shine brightly across the land of the free. People are stepping up to challenge the status quo. The spirit of freedom is seeing a spark of life.

Americans, born free Americans, are growing tired of politics and politicians. Growing tired of buying energy from cultures that cannot live in harmony with one another much less in harmony with a free society. Especially when we have more of it in the ground than all of them combined. Growing tired of social engineering. Growing tired of aristocrats, bureaucrats, autocrats, plutocrats, politic-rats all of them. Growing tired of phony elites who presume themselves smarter than the rest of us. Growing tired of those in power who believe than can ignore any law or make up any rule that fits their mood. Growing tired of people who are trying to lead America, but are trying to lead her away from the spirit of freedom that is the underpinning of this most exceptional nation. Americans are tiring of the government’s refusal, all of the government, to secure our borders and actually protect our homeland and our spirit of freedom.

Americans are growing tired of politicians that will not deal with corruption – the most blatant, egregious corruption in the history of corruption all because they believe it will hinder their chances in the upcoming elections. Americans are growing tired of politicians who lack the spine to do what is right.

Americans are growing tired. It is time for Washington to understand the power of the spirit of freedom. Up close and personal.

Told you so

I never liked “I told you so” declarations. The reason being is that they generally follow some foretold calamity. One does not need the political sense of Rush Limbaugh to see what is coming and try to warn of it.

In March 2012, I questioned ““Just Another Vietnam?” I predicted the outcome for Iraq and Afghanistan would be another self-fulfilling prophesy of progressive Washington and its like-minded media. At the very beginning, the old hands were out there asking publicly if Americans are ready for the body bags to start coming home. I heard the term so frequently from the Vietnam era media types and held over politicians that it was all I could do to maintain my composure. Ted Kennedy an anti-Vietnam war, anti military hack was out yelling quagmire in front of every available television camera. There were plenty of available cameras whenever Teddy was ready to put forth his anti-war screed. The liberal media reported the number of KIA every single day. Print media demanded to be able to photograph coffins returning to the United States. In spite of them, our Soldiers whipped the enemy in his place. We started training up and equipping the armed forces of those nations, then our national command authority decided we should pack our bags and skedaddle. So we did. We left a partially trained military not yet weaned from American ground support and advisors in the hands of a corrupt government. When the bad guys came back, as they always will if not totally crushed, the “army” threw down its stuff and ran. Americans began evacuating. I saw articles beneath a picture of a helicopter sitting on top of the US Embassy, Saigon 1975.

Back home, there are no protestors at the airports this time greeting our returning Soldiers and calling them baby killers. The people who did that then now walk the halls of Congress, head up the State Department, work for the legacy media, or they are busily indoctrinating our youth inside our education system. Our Veterans are not being well served by the medical system designed to treat them. Our government wants to spend millions and millions of dollars to encourage illegal immigration and to support the immigrants after they are allowed to cross our borders, not to fix Veteran’s healthcare. But what about the poor treatment of Veterans? Well they assure Veterans, between rounds of golf, that they are madder than hell about that.

Soldiers, serving in combat zones or returning home see that social engineering the military is more important than regenerating and retraining it. I suppose if someone wanted to destroy the effectiveness of the United States military, he would implement rules of engagement that ensured more American casualties and then put Soldiers in prison if they broke one of those rules to save lives – like their own. He would introduce social rules glorifying homosexuality in the ranks, discourage free expression of Christianity, and allow Soldiers to add all manner of religious (not Christian) accouterments along with beards and tattoos to their military uniforms. To show the services and Congress who is really in charge, he might release five of the most dangerous killers in GITMO to get the return of a deserter and possible enemy collaborator who served with honor and distinction.

I suppose after that, he would probably reduce benefits of serving members of the Armed forces and retirement benefits for those who served. He would fill the leadership ranks with senior officers who are willing to march in step rather than speak out against bad policy. On that note, the most senior serving Generals and Admirals who are not willing to put their stars on the table opposing bad policies that harm the nation and our serving men and women are not leaders at all. They are sycophantic yes men and women, not leaders.

If anyone accepts that what is happening to our country and to the US military is going to turn out well, please take something to cure you of terminal cranial rectal inversion syndrome. If things continue, recruiters are going to find it quite difficult to fill the ranks with volunteers. An Army of conscripts coming soon to a war near you. I pray I do not have to say I told you so.

The sun will rise

I like to sit on my patio around 6 AM. I can watch the sunrise. Brilliant beams of light piercing the morning sky are welcomed by a songbird symphony. Except for the birds, it is a quiet time. No one is about. The squirrels are not even stirring although a deer or two may still linger. It is a good time to ponder things. It is a good time to give thanks to the One who made it possible for me to enjoy the morning sun and the singing birds. It is a good time to acknowledge that I am free and He also gave me that.

Sitting there confirms what is important. No matter how bad you or I believe life is the sun will arrive again each morning. The birds will still sing. We will still be free.

How do I know that for certain? Men cannot determine when the sun rises or sets. Men cannot quiet the birds. Men cannot change the seasons, warm the earth or cool it. Men cannot set the stars in the sky or put out their glimmering lights. Men did not create the earth so men cannot destroy it. Men did not give us freedom so men cannot take it away.

Men can and do commit acts of evil upon one another.

There are other things I know for certain. Arrogance, deceit, narcissism, and hatred are a terrible recipe for the soul of a man. The brighter the light of truth shines on a man of such character, the more desperate and dangerous he becomes to all people. History teaches that if unchallenged such men continue on until they cross a line of no return. They keep going until the light of good and truth completely destroys them. Through all of their deceitful and despicable acts, the sun will still rise each day and the birds will still sing reminding people that men are not in control. The freedom engraved on the hearts of all mankind will remain long after these men are dragged away through the gates of hell.

Some other things I know for certain. Soldiers are loyal first to their teammates – to one another. A Medal of Honor recipient I knew since my first tour in Korea in 1972 until the time I retired from the Army in 1999 told me something that has never left me. He said when Soldiers are fighting or are in dangerous places and situations they are not endorsing any lofty ideals of fighting for freedom, or country or any other such thing. They are fighting for one another – for the Soldier to their left and right.

The other thing I know for certain is that Soldiers rarely speak ill of one another outside their units. For them to do that there must be an egregious cause. If his brothers-in-arms tell us that Private Bowe Bergdahl is a deserter and probable enemy collaborator then the odds are overwhelming that he is. Because of him, good Soldiers died.

In past wars fought and in different times, Bergdahl would likely have already faced court martial and a potential firing squad.

The last thing I know for certain is that neither is likely to happen today. It will not happen because the leadership of our country is filled with arrogance, deceit, narcissism, and hatred. Bergdahl, who has been promoted as a legitimate Prisoner of War (POW) would have been during the past five years, will get his promotions, get a large sum of money and will fade into the background adding to the legacy of this administration. I know this for certain because I fear there is no leadership in the Army at the appropriate levels with sufficient spine to buck the chain and pursue the rightful action. The Army is not going to investigate Bergdahl and demonstrate for the rest of America his treasonous acts. Instead, they will investigate his chain of command and the “bullies” that caused little Bowe to walk away and conclude in an investigation never to become public that there was nothing to see here.

Each day His sun will continue to rise for America. It will shine brighter and brighter. What I know for certain is that evil cannot exist in the light.

Franklin D. Roosevelt: “Prayer on D-Day,” June 6, 1944

My fellow Americans: Last night, when I spoke with you about the fall of Rome, I knew at that moment that troops of the United States and our allies were crossing the Channel in another and greater operation. It has come to pass with success thus far.

And so, in this poignant hour, I ask you to join with me in prayer:

Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.

Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith.

They will need Thy blessings. Their road will be long and hard. For the enemy is strong. He may hurl back our forces. Success may not come with rushing speed, but we shall return again and again; and we know that by Thy grace, and by the righteousness of our cause, our sons will triumph.

They will be sore tried, by night and by day, without rest-until the victory is won. The darkness will be rent by noise and flame. Men’s souls will be shaken with the violences of war.

For these men are lately drawn from the ways of peace. They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest. They fight to liberate. They fight to let justice arise, and tolerance and good will among all Thy people. They yearn but for the end of battle, for their return to the haven of home.

Some will never return. Embrace these, Father, and receive them, Thy heroic servants, into Thy kingdom.

And for us at home – fathers, mothers, children, wives, sisters, and brothers of brave men overseas – whose thoughts and prayers are ever with them – help us, Almighty God, to rededicate ourselves in renewed faith in Thee in this hour of great sacrifice.

Many people have urged that I call the Nation into a single day of special prayer. But because the road is long and the desire is great, I ask that our people devote themselves in a continuance of prayer. As we rise to each new day, and again when each day is spent, let words of prayer be on our lips, invoking Thy help to our efforts.

Give us strength, too – strength in our daily tasks, to redouble the contributions we make in the physical and the material support of our armed forces.

And let our hearts be stout, to wait out the long travail, to bear sorrows that may come, to impart our courage unto our sons wheresoever they may be.

And, O Lord, give us Faith. Give us Faith in Thee; Faith in our sons; Faith in each other; Faith in our united crusade. Let not the keenness of our spirit ever be dulled. Let not the impacts of temporary events, of temporal matters of but fleeting moment let not these deter us in our unconquerable purpose.

With Thy blessing, we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy. Help us to conquer the apostles of greed and racial arrogancies. Lead us to the saving of our country, and with our sister Nations into a world unity that will spell a sure peace a peace invulnerable to the schemings of unworthy men. And a peace that will let all of men live in freedom, reaping the just rewards of their honest toil.

Thy will be done, Almighty God. Amen.


Sometimes it is just the little things piling up that annoy me. When people are the annoyance, it makes me want to ask what in the hell is the matter with you? My bride sent me to the grocery store the other morning. That does not annoy me. With my list, it is an in and out mission. No nonsense, no browsing. But, every doggone time she sends me on the mission, the best laid plan encounters reality and I find myself hopelessly surrounded by the enemy.

The enemy are the pleasingly plump (That is a polite phrase we use here in Wild and Wonderful. It is more palatable that fat sow.) ladies blocking me from going forward or retreating. Two of them waddling abreast (no pun intended) using grocery carts like personal walkers blocking the entire aisle while carrying on a grand conversation. Wheeling around defensively I find a pleasingly plump person with her scooter sitting sideways in the aisle. She is directly across from another who is blocking the other side with her cart sideways while she carries on a big conversation via the Bluetooth gizmo in her ear. Neither is doing very much shopping. And there I was. Trapped. And all I needed in that aisle was a pack of hamburger buns. The buns shared the Ho-Ho and Twinkie aisle. A recon failure on my part. Not being one to desert my post, I maintain my defensive posture and make a break for it at the first opening.

I returned home to find that antlered rodents (that we cannot shoot inside town) ate a good bit of my yard. While mowing the grass, I also encountered a nauseating stench. Doing the natural thing, I immediately completed a 360 range scan of the perimeter. I was searching for an Occupy Wall Street tent. There was none. It was cat crap. Feral cat crap. Courtesy of my neighbors, with big hearts who feed the herd of feral cats that like to crap in the tall grass – in my yard.

All weekend the little annoyances piled up. Then the big one came. This one was another on top of many, but this one is egregious and with deadly implications for Americans both Soldiers and civilians. This one turned annoyance into anger. It was a deal cut outside the law requiring a 30 day advance notice to Congress before such an action can take place. Our President, the Commander in Chief of the United States Armed Forces, traded five rabid Islamists for an Army deserter. A Private First Class who deserted his post in Afghanistan and went looking for the Taliban. He is responsible for the deaths of members of his unit that were searching for him. There is no cheering inside of his unit for this trade. There is no cheering inside of our Army that our leadership would free murderous bastards for an Army deserter. Adding insult to injury, his Islamist sympathizing daddy, in Arabic and standing beside the professed Christian President of the United States of America praised Allah from inside the Whitehouse. Let that sink in just a minute. I am speculating that was part of the ransom deal. America surrendered to Islam. The world watched it on television and across the Middle East I expect repeatedly.

In the coming days, I fully expect to become more annoyed. The Whitehouse driven media will turn this deserter into a hero. They will turn this President into the great American who will not leave an American behind. Not the man who abandoned Americans to die in Benghazi to cover up a gun running operation to Islamic radicals fighting in Libya. Not the man responsible for the utter failure of the Veterans Health Administration. Not the man who never lifted a finger to help a United States Marine imprisoned in a Mexican jail. Not the man responsible for gun running into Mexico and responsible for the death of an American Border Patrol Agent. Not the man who is responsible for the Internal Revenue Service targeting his political opponents. Not the professed Christian who is unable to acknowledge Christians being brutalized in Islamic countries including the wife of an American Citizen sentenced to death because she refuses to renounce her faith and convert to Islam. No, not this man. He no longer exists. He is much bigger than all of these Republican conspiracy theories. This is the man who turned over hell and earth to bring home an American Soldier because that is what he does. That is who he is.

This is not the man who has so demoralized the United States Military that a West Point graduating class that is ready to give most anyone a raucous standing ovation, barely acknowledged he was even there. No, he is the hero who brought an American Soldier home.

And the most annoying? A Congress that lacks the intestinal fortitude to rid our nation of a tin pot dictator. What in the hell is the matter with you?

Be annoyed Americans. Be really annoyed. It will not get better for us until we are.
