To all the servicemen and women

I thanked a soldier today
He only wanted his order
But I thanked him all the same
Not for his purchase
But what he's buying for me
Because he's shipping out
To keep his country free
I hope he remembers the man he is
Once that M16 is by his bed
He might be a cousin, a lover,
Maybe somebody's friend
It could be any soldier heading out
And I'd proudly thank him again
