My Backyard Summit

I was sitting on the back porch the other evening. It was a typical beginning of autumn here in wild and wonderful. Cool, pleasant and quiet. The only thing breaking the evening’s silence was crickets. Those crickets reminded me of the majority of Americans. They were making a lot of noise, but it was lost in the background because no one was really paying them any attention. Sitting there enjoying my cricket chirping induced peace, my head started filling up with disconnected thoughts.

Paris was busted for cocaine – again. Paris was kicked out of Japan. Lindsey was busted –again. Lindsey bailed herself out of jail. I stroked my whiskers and wondered why in the name of sanity thoughts about the antics of these self-absorbed practitioners of slutology would find their way into my quiet time. It must be satanic. They remind me of the fireflies that I watch darting through the twilight. They would go completely unnoticed if they did not flash their tails once in awhile for everyone to see.

There is a buck deer that has staked out my yard. I catch him strutting through some evenings and spook him just enough to watch him leap the split rail and run off up the hill. When I do not manage to intercept him, he will eat the plants and leave his signature. He reminds me of a Washington politician. He struts in like he is important and expecting applause, takes what he had no hand in producing, and gives me a pile of crap in return.

President Ahmanutjob was allowed into our country again. He made another inane speech at the United Nations wherein he accused the United States of orchestrating the attack on itself on September 11, 2001. The majority of the members of the General Assembly remained seated to share in his psychosis. Now the 9/11 truthers have a new ally to go along with their White House link, communist Van Jones. While here, he also met with Louis Farrakhan and the New Black Panthers. I wonder if Eric Holder had his eye on that one. Reckon Louis took Mahmood up for a tour of the mother ship. He spurned Hillary and the President – again. Thinking on it though, maybe it was Ambassador Farrakhan with whom he met.

I have a raccoon that has taken up residence beneath my tool shed. I am afraid it is a female, hopefully not rabid, and come spring there will be a whole brood of freeloaders in there for me to clear out. Guess I better keep a close eye that the Democrats do not give them amnesty and register them to vote.

The President is traveling about and holding media events dubbed backyard summits where he gets hard hitting and surely not canned questions about his Christianity among other things. If you have to keep proclaiming that you are a Christian maybe you have self doubts. Much of the nation has doubts. He proclaimed that he is a Christian by choice. Everyone who is a Christian is so by choice. That is a very important step. Being a Christian is not about proclaiming it at every opportunity. Being a Christian is about living it so that when people observe you they are left with no doubts.

“So I came to my Christian faith later in life, and it was because the precepts of Jesus Christ spoke to me in terms of the kind of life that I would want to lead – being my brothers’ and sisters’ keeper, treating others as they would treat me.”

I read the Bible often, practically daily. I may be mistaken and one of you Biblical scholars can correct me if I am. But I believe that the only reference in the Bible to one being his brother’s keeper was when Cain who just killed his brother Abel was answering to God.

Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” The LORD said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. – Genesis 4: 8-10 (NIV)

There is an expression that says sometimes it is better to remain silent than to speak up and remove all doubt. Maybe one might choose to spend more time in the Word and less time making up the words.

The President again appeared on the cover of The Rolling Stone. Inside he proclaimed that Fox News was destructive to the nation. It reminded me of the old hippie Marxists and Communists who now hold the title of Presidential advisors, and Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show.

(Hey Ray, hey sugar, tell them who we are)

Well, we’re big rock singers, we got golden fingers and we’re loved everywhere we go (That sounds like us)
We sing about beauty and we sing about truth at ten thousand dollars a show (Right)
We take all kinds of pills, that give us all kind of thrills but the thrill we’ve never known
Is the thrill that’ll get you when you get your picture on the cover of The Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone, wanna see my picture on the cover
Wanna buy five copies for my mother (Yeah!)
Wanna see my smilin’ face, on the cover of The Rolling Stone
(That’s a very very good idea)

Maybe it is better for my mental state to withstand the roar of the crowd than it is to quietly sit. Think I will go work on the bunker.

As an American, it is time for me to decide where my loyalty rests. What do I stand for? What am I most willing to fight for? What am I least willing to give up?

I do know that whatever holds your loyalty will make demands of you. It will dog you. It will make you devote time to it. It will demand that you meet its needs. It will settle for nothing less. Loyalty, however, is a two way street. Like it or not, you will get a return for your loyalty.

So where lays your loyalty? It is a question each of us need to answer for ourselves. Introspect is not always pleasant.

I look at self-involved politicians and pundits and wonder if I act that way.

If you are a self-centered individual, like the politicians who lost their primary elections and refused to go away, you may be loyal first to your ego. A narcissist, which is what such people are, requires an ego masseuse.

These self-centered egomaniacs know that the voters prefer them and their ideas to any other. They are certain that everyone can see that they are more brilliant and sophisticated than any potential opponent or the typical American. They convince themselves that there must be something unfair or crooked if they lose an election or have an unpopular idea, or, alternatively that the serfdom is just too stupid to know what is best. Whatever goes wrong for them or with their grand schemes is someone else’s fault. A narcissist knows what is best for you and if in the position to do so, will give it to you whether you want it or not. To protect you, he will make sure you do not make bad choices. He will do that by removing from the menu your choices that he considers bad. You will still be free to choose, but your choice will be between the little electric car and no car. Narcissists make good dictators. They build countries that resemble North Korea. If you are a total narcissist, you cannot be truly loyal to anything or anyone.

I also hope that I have not become a party loyalist even if one party is in theory more representative of my views than another.

If you are fiercely loyal to a political party, the most important thing to you is that the party to which you are loyal gets and maintains power. The character and qualities of the party members or the ideologies of the party bosses doesn’t mean anything. What matters is that you have a seat with the party that is in power. You are so taken with advancing the party and the party’s ideology, that you will sacrifice the freedom of a nation in order to get that power. The political win is what is important to you. What matters least are the people and nation you pretend to serve. That is how communism works.

So what does self loyalty or political party loyalty return to you? Does it return to you anything that is enduring? I think it does not. If you are held captive to your ego and your ego takes a beating at the hands of voters, what happens to you? You become a whining Lisa Murkowski, or Al Gore. When you are loyal to a party and you do not care who is in it or what they believe as long as they can keep you in power, what does that get you? A dysfunctional and unresponsive Washington DC, 2010.

What would you get in return if you were loyal to a set of enduring principles? What if you were loyal to the ideals in the founding documents of our country, The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution?

You would get the freest, most prosperous and most powerful nation in the history of mankind. You would return the beam to the shining light that once showed the rest of the world the way to true freedom.

I want to be a loyal American.

The Establishment

In the 1960’s, we had a hippie infestation. For a reference point, it was akin to a Biblical plague of locusts.

The hippie mantra, besides hell no, we won’t go and burning their draft cards, was to never trust “the establishment.” Besides their selective service cards, they also burned our flag. Conversely, they admired the Communist North Vietnam flag. They took over college campuses and held peaceful little demonstrations like the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago. In 1969, they gave us their crowning achievement, Woodstock. They admired Karl Marx, Che Guevara and Ho Chi Minh.

At some point, probably when on a downer following a hallucinogenic LSD trip, they figured out that no one would pay serious attention to them or what they believed as long as they appeared as a maggot infested America and Soldier hating gaggle of dope smokers. They took the flowers from their hair, washed their dirty jeans – and their bodies, got their locks trimmed, went back to school (after Carter granted them amnesty) mostly on Daddy’s dollar and ultimately they became the establishment.

We now have hippies in tailored suits with sprayed on hair and tans ruining our country. Now, it is the Americans who go to work each day and keep our country functioning who have had it with “the establishment.”

Go figure.

Part of that establishment is the American aristocracy. In the 60’s, they were hippies of wealth. They comprise our political ruling class that have made politics and ruling over the serfdom the family business. Other than bootlegging, did you ever know a member of the Kennedy clan to have a job outside of politics? If they are not politicians themselves, the super wealthy support politicians that are favorable to them. They do so because the asinine policies of those favored politicians crushes the life out of Middle America, but does no harm to them. Instead, the wink, wink policies make them wealthier and subsequently more politically influential. From their perspective, it is a logical arrangement.

Let’s not leave out the academics, political pundits and media elite branches of the establishment. They talk over and down to us like we are a collection of morons who should fall on our knees and thank them for the wisdom they impart.

Dangling from the end of the special interest strings are establishment party politicians. If you took them all and put them in a bag, shook it up and dumped them out, you would end up with a herd of incestuous braying pachyderms who look a lot like old hippies. With sprayed on hair. You could not tell one from the other.

In party politics, what matters most is the party. It is the ultimate country club run by the good ole boys that set the greens fees. Do not make the mistake of looking at the party affiliation on your voter’s registration card and believing that you are in the party. Typically, our elected representatives report to the party establishment bosses and not to the residents of the states who sent them to Washington. To them, the party that counts is inside the Washington, DC beltway. That is where the power resides and where the cash flows and where they intend to keep both for as long as we Americans allow it.

Now they are flabbergasted and showing their true colors. The unwashed, uninformed masses are using their votes to toss out family heirs to political seats and establishment politicians. Heads are exploding all over Washington. I believe there are still chunks of Karl Rove’s plastered on the walls of a Fox television studio. From Christ to Murkowski to Castle, they are finding out that it is not about the party. It is about America. It is about the Americans who are once again in our history rejecting political royalty and the establishment it rode in here on.

The Liberal Crusade

Do I think it is appropriate to burn the Koran? Although it is a perfectly legal freedom of expression in the United States, I do not believe that it is appropriate to do that. It is also not illegal for the Islamists to construct their victory mosque at ground zero either, but that too is not appropriate.

Both acts defy common human decency and respect. Loving your neighbor as yourself it is not.

What gets my dander up is the sudden new found liberal need to defend religion. Something most of them have spent their lives either avoiding or ridiculing. First they vigorously defended construction of the ground zero victory mosque as a freedom of religion issue. Now, with the same vigor, they condemn the potential desecration of an item important to one particular religion, in this case, burning the “Holy” Koran.

[Secretary of State Hillary] Clinton condemned the threat to burn the Quran during her remarks at a State Department dinner she hosted in observance of Iftar, the breaking of the daily fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

“I am heartened by the clear, unequivocal condemnation of this disrespectful, disgraceful act that has come from American religious leaders of all faiths,” Clinton said.

Where was our State Department champion of religious liberty and defender of religious symbols when a so-called artist urinated in a jar, placed a crucifix in his jar, photographed it and called it Piss Christ? It was a freedom of expression work of art paid for with $15,000 of your tax dollars from the National Endowment for the Arts so there is no point in getting all worked up about it. Did you also hear about the Holy Virgin Mary painting? It was a prize winner too.

The painting depicted a black African Mary surrounded by images from blaxploitation movies and close-ups of female genitalia cut from pornographic magazines, and elephant dung. These were formed into shapes reminiscent of the cherubim and seraphim commonly depicted in images of the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption of Mary.

When our Secretary of State hosts a dinner in celebration of an important Christian observance like maybe Passion Week (okay, stop giggling), maybe she could grace us with her critique of Piss Christ or elephant dung Mary. Or, maybe she could give us her views on the treatment of Christians, Christianity or any other religion by Islam. She can start by reviewing her State Department’s International Religious Freedom Report 2009.

[In Saudi Arabia] Freedom of religion is neither recognized nor protected under the law and is severely restricted in practice.

Non-Muslims and many Muslims whose beliefs do not adhere to the Government’s interpretation of Islam must practice their religion in private and are vulnerable to discrimination, harassment, detention, and, deportation for noncitizens… Blasphemy is a crime punishable by long prison terms or, in some cases, death. Conversion by Muslims to another religion (apostasy) and proselytizing by non-Muslims are punishable by death under the Islamic laws adopted by the country, but there have been no confirmed reports of executions for either crime in recent years.

Planning a vacation to Saudi Arabia? Did you know that the Saudis confiscate Bibles too?

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as it is officially called, reportedly bans foreigners from bringing in Bibles, crucifixes, Stars of David and other religious non-Islamic items.

The heavily Muslim country threatens to confiscate them from foreign visitors along with other prohibited items such as narcotics, firearms and pornography, according to the web site of Saudi Arabian Airlines, the country’s national carrier.

What do you suppose they do with those items?

General Petraeus made a statement against burning the Koran. I can understand the General’s position. There is certainly no reason to give ones enemies any additional motivation to seek the company of 72 virgins. With all due respect, we do need the General to focus his attention on fighting the war and not on the antics of a whacko pastor of a 50 member church.

The General is joined in his concern of increasing danger now by the ground zero imam who threatened us if his victory mosque is not built where he wants it. The Muslim world will explode he says… I wonder if exploding Muslims will resemble the dancing Muslims seen in the “Arab street” on 09/11. I suppose I am beyond fearing Muslim explosions. I believe the remainder of the world, like me, is beginning to accept that as a normal attribute.

Did you know that in May 2009, members of the United States Military in Afghanistan had in their possession some Dari and Pashto language translations of the New Testament? The Bibles were sent through private mail to a service member from his Church in the United States. ABC News reported that after the story ran on Al Jazeera, the military confiscated the Bibles and burned them. The United States Military burned Bibles. No one kicked up a ruckus about that. Most people have probably never heard about it and there was nary a peep out of Mrs. Clinton about that “disrespectful, disgraceful act.”

“I can now confirm that the Bibles shown on Al Jazeera’s clip were, in fact, collected by the chaplains and later destroyed. They were never distributed,” spokeswoman Major Jennifer Willis said at Bagram air base, north of Kabul.” – Reuters May 5, 2009.

In contrast:

At Gitmo, personnel receive instructions: “Do not disrespect the Koran (let it touch the floor, kick it, step on it).” They must “handle the Koran as if it were a fragile piece of delicate art.” This means ensuring “that the Koran is not placed in offensive areas such as the floor, near the toilet or sink, near the feet, or dirty/wet area.” Only Muslim chaplains and interpreters are actually supposed to touch a Koran, and then only if wearing clean latex gloves. Moreover: “Two hands will be used at all times when handling the Koran in a manner signaling respect and reverence.”

As your gag reflex relaxes just remember that it is okay to chuck Bibles into the incinerator, but Lord save you if you touch a Koran with bare infidel hands.

Do you know what the Afghan literacy rate is? It is 28 percent. Seven out of every 10 Afghans could not read the Koran even if they had one. So if we gave them Bibles they could not read those either. I recommend audio versions. The mullahs, who can read, however, can whip the illiterate masses into fanatical frenzies at will. That is why Dutch movie makers are murdered in the streets and people riot over cartoons.

How would they respond if someone dunked an elephant dung image of their profit into a jar of urine?

So there you have it. You can do just about whatever you like when it comes to Christianity or Judaism for that matter. You can ridicule Christians, desecrate their Christian symbols (or ban them from view) and destroy their Holy books with no outcry from the liberals. For some reason, though, you just cannot offend a Muslim’s sensibilities for fear that he might explode.

Maybe it is because when you offend Christians by doing such things, they do not explode. They only pray for your soul.

Breaking: Rush Limbaugh and Barack Obama to Hold Policy Summit…

A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions. – Proverbs 18:2 (NIV)

Do you like the way Proverbs hit you between the eyes like a blow delivered by a piece of dimension lumber? With a bazillion commentators piping in on every topic, self-included, and many of them backed with heavy doses of keyboard courage, it gets noisy these days. Everybody wants to be Rush Limbaugh. Most cannot. Ask Ed Schultz. There is little chance of the truth breaking through the racket, so we just settle in on the opinions with which we agree or we make up something else. That is a dangerous approach when the fate of the world’s freest nation is at stake.

I prefer the written word even if it does come to me most often in an electronic format. Reading it, rather than listening to a droning or whiney condescending dissertation of it, works better for me.

In our Internet driven world there is a gridlock of thoughts on the overhyped information superhighway. We have condensed most of those thoughts to one-liners – a headline, a sound bite or a snarky thoughtless comment.

I am as guilty as anyone else. If I am not hooked by the first couple of lines in the first paragraph, I usually move along to the reader’s comment section or the next headline altogether. That probably explains why some of you have already moved along from this offering. Had I started out by hammering on the politician or policy you most despise, you may have hung around for a little bit longer.

It is okay if you have moved on because writing in this form is akin to talking to yourself anyway – so I am saying it whether anyone is listening to it or not. I also occasionally answer myself and even carry on complete conversations – with myself. I even impress myself with what I consider flashes of my own brilliance. And I can do it without the benefit of my head pivoting as if on a swivel between dueling Teleprompters while I read someone else’s script.

If you skip ahead to the comments section generally offered in our new electronic media and then back up and read the article, it is obvious that many of the commentators do not read far beyond the headline. They comment about what other commentators commented about. Neither of which have much to do with the thoughts offered up in the original piece. It proves the adage that instructs if you spend less time talking and more time listening, no one will know how little it is that you actually know Chris Matthews. If only we could program that thought permanently into the brains of politicians. Smokin’ Joe Biden comes to mind.

Being a headline reader and snarky commentator more often than not leaves you standing nekkid (Appalachian-American dialect for naked.). Unable to defend your positions, you just keep making stuff up. You add one silly position atop another and continually build upon your well-established biases and borderline idiocy. Opinions supported by opinions. Imagine that. The old media comes to mind. And in deference to the second most powerful man in the world, so does Ol’ Joe again.

I believe headline reading is a national problem. It leads to headline thinking. That is thinking that rarely ventures below the surface. It is the only reasonable explanation for why we elected a slogan without substance to the Presidency of the United States. I Hope we can Change that in November. Can we? Yes we can!

Proverbs 23: 1-3 (NIV).
